ATTACHMENT & INNER CHILD WORK

img

Inner child work refers to recognizing and healing childhood wounds caused by trauma, which could have taken many forms including, abuse (physical, sexual, emotional) neglect, unexpected deaths, community violence, and bullying to name only a few.

Inner child work involves understanding the impact of traumatic events on the child self from the perspective of the adult self, to promote healing through self-observation. “Going back” helps us understand current behaviors and reactions and develop healthy coping mechanisms for the triggers experienced in day-to-day life.

If left untreated, the wounded inner child grows into adulthood using maladaptive coping mechanisms that undermine the establishment of healthy, interpersonal relationships as well as low self-esteem, porous boundaries, compassion deficits and the inability to express emotional needs.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a talk therapy modality which can help manage mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. CBT supposes that some psychological challenges stem from unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving based on faulty core beliefs about the self and the world.

A CBT approach supports clients in “unlearning” negative thought patterns and unhealthy responses. CBT is based on the reexamination of inaccurate thought patterns by observing your interpretation of situations, your self-talk, and how you behave in response.

RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (REBT)

img

Supposes that how we feel is largely influenced by how we think, but we are typically unaware of our deeply imbedded irrational thoughts and how they affect us on a day-to-day basis.

REBT focuses primarily on the present to address attitudes, unhealthy emotions (anger, depression, anxiety, guilt, etc.) and maladaptive coping methods/ behaviors.

Challenging negative core beliefs and unlearning years-old patterns of thinking are essential for optimal outcomes including increased life satisfaction.

SOLUTION-FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY (SFBT)

img Is most effective for targeted goals and focuses on the client’s strengths and capabilities rather than weaknesses or deficits, and on skills, resources and coping abilities that will help clients reach their goals rather than concentrating on the identified “problem”. Clinical focus is on the solution not how the problem came to be in the first place.

PERSON-CENTERED THERAPY

Encourages clients to take more of a lead in sessions as the experts on their lives such that, in the process, they discover their own solutions while developing a stronger sense of self, and more trust in their own decision making skills.
