Women's Issues

Women face a unique set of systemic challenges. Their multi-layered identities like gender, race, ethnicity, social class, education, and age can inform their experiences in more profound ways and require an understanding of the needs of women within their social contexts. Women are diagnosed more often with depression, anxiety disorders and eating disorders. Trauma may be particularly pervasive among women of every culture and identity. Women face the transition to pregnancy, parenthood and post-partum depression and anxiety. Women face unequal limits to reproductive freedom and access to healthcare.

There is a particular need for women to address the impact their experiences have on their mental health in a therapeutic space, where they will find safety and the freedom to express themselves and process emotions, while uncovering their strengths, cultivating resilience, agency and personal empowerment.
